M42 - The Orion Nebula
Technical details.
Taken with a 40D Canon Camera at prime focus of a Celestron 9.25" f/10 telescope. 17 x 30s exposures at 800 iso stacked in DeepSkyStacker and processed in Photoshop.

This was a bit of an experiment in two aspects. This was taken with an unmoddified DSLR and so I was testing to what extent the reds would appear in the image and secondly it was through an ALT-AZIMUTH telescope and so could only cope with 30s exposures without field rotation being a problem. I was quite pleased with the outcome.

M42 The Orion Nebula
This brilliant Nebula was apparently missed by Galileo who did study Orion. It is one of the grandest naked eye nebulae just below the belt of Orion in the sword. It is 1500 light-years distant.
